Education

Charlotte Harbor is part of the excellent Charlotte County Public Schools. There are nine elementary schools, four middle schools, three high schools and one charter school in the area. In addition, a number of colleges such as Impac University and Edison State are available to serve the higher learning needs of students.

Attractions

Worden Farm is a locally owned farm that produces organic food. The farm is known for its sustainable techniques that are used to protect the soil, water resources and animals. In addition, the farm holds a number of Farmers Market throughout the city. These Farmers Markets meet year round and usually on Saturdays and Wednesdays at various locations throughout the area.

The Gasparilla Lighthouse and Museum is a charming museum and stunning lighthouse set against the Boca Grande Pass. The Museum is home to many exhibits, but some of the most popular include Spanish and Calusa Culture, Local Fishing, the Florida Railroad and of course the quaint lighthouse.

The Charlotte Chorale serves as the great Performing Arts Center in the Charlotte Harbor area. Every year, the Charlotte Chorale performs many beautiful vocal performances that have included A Salute to America and The Glory of Christmas. The Chorale also welcomes new and talented musicians to their theatre.

Parks and Recreation

Charlotte Harbor has been recognized by Golf Digest as being third in the “Best Place in America to Live and Play Golf.” One of the most popular is the Bobcat Trail Golf and Country Club. This four and a half star 18-hole course was designed by Bob Tway and Lee Singletary. The course itself is known as being a rewarding experience for players of all levels. Riverwood Golf Club is also another top pick among locals for its full length practice range, putting green and multi faceted short game practice area. The course has a lot of heavily wooded terrain and rich in strands of natural pine.

Water sports are all the rage in Charlotte Harbor. Many residents enjoy fishing, sailing and boating in the area’s many lakes, beaches and water preserves. Some of the most popular places in which to engage in these great water sports are Big Kid Kayaks, Fishermen’s Village, Gasparilla Marina, Gulf Coast Marina Center, Paradise Sailing, Punta Gorda Marina and Yachting Vacations, along with many, many more.

There are over 70 nature parks and preserves in the Charlotte Harbor area, making it a wonderful place for exploring, hiking or even a charming picnic! Some of the best hiking is at Charlotte Harbor Preserve State Park, which is known for its vast areas of unspoiled scenery and wildlife. Cedar Point Park is a beautiful park with 115 acres of wildlife, gorgeous plants and a specialized nature center. The Charlotte Sports Park serves as a great location for sporting activities, concerts and special events. Peace River Wildlife Center is an active wildlife rehabilitation center that is particularly known for its exotic birds. In addition, Charlotte Harbor is filled with numerous beach parks.
